I’ve been holding my tongue during the whole Kylie Jenner/Timothée Chalamet relationship uproar for a number of reasons (see Kayleigh’s great article), chief of which being that dating someone your friends and family would never pick for you and dressing like them and slowly morphing into one person is a 20-something canon event so who are we to interfere? The paparazzi pictures have been mostly gross and annoying and have made me feel very old. I have basically been ignoring everything because let’s be honest, this can’t last. Let the kids have their fun.
Well, dear reader, everything has changed.
Jenner and Chalamet were photographed in Paris this week as they entered a wine bar to attend the 31st birthday of singer Rosalia. They were sporting what we have come to associate as the uniform of their relationship—black jackets, a black cap for the young man, and black sunglasses for the lady. Think Men in Black costume department. Are they in disguise? Is it roleplay? We’ll never know.
These particular photos seemed like nothing new. Until, that is, a certain close-up shot entered the scene. A close-up shot of a hand clutching a finger.

I regret to inform you that I audibly gasped. We’ve all heard the Roman Empire conversation, well Hand Stuff is the female version of the Roman Empire. Not since the shot of Mr. Darcy flexing the hand that Elizabeth Bennett briefly held have we seen such a tender display of Hand Stuff.
Actually, I lied, there are a bunch of examples in Bridgerton.
And now we can add Kylie Jenner hanging onto Timothée Chalamet’s outstretched pointer finger, as if her very life depended on it, to that list. Suddenly I’m their biggest stan. Protect these kids, please. They know not what they do.
